Samba Workshop

On Friday, we took part in an amazing samba workshop. We learnt about all the different instruments that make up the different rhythms and sounds.

Heads Shoulders Knees and Toes

This afternoon we launched our new topic, "Heads Shoulders Knees and Toes!" As part of the topic we will be learning all about the human body and how the fuel we put into it effects it!

To launch our topic we attempted to measure our pulse rate before and after exercise and also tasted some mango, pineapple, blueberries and pomegranate.

Evacuation on the Watercress Line!

To launch our new topic, 'Help! I'm an Evacuee, get me out of here!' year 5 travelled back in time to experience what life would have been like for an evacuee during World War 2 on the Watercress Line.
  Our day started at Alresford train station where we met our billeting officer who then instructed us that we were to be evacuated to Ropley train station, which is where we experienced making our own clothes. Due to rationing, children and families had to make their own clothes or even worse, have hand me downs!


Whilst at Ropely, we met Jack, who was 89 years old and during World War 2, experienced young evacuees being evacuated to his own village and to his neighbour's house. Jack gave us a valuable insight into what life must have been like back during World War 2 and trying to play with friends during the blackout!

We then boarded the train to make our way home via Alton while filling in our postcards home and identity cards, which were carried by all evacuees!

Dig For Victory!


To springboard our learning of our new topic next term, 'I'm an evacuee, get me out of here!' We have begun to live like children in World War 2 and plant our own potatoes. 
We are hoping that when we return to school after Easter we will see our potatoes would have started to grow and hopefully by the end of the Summer term we will be able to take home the potatoes we grew to create some food at home!

Crumble UFO's!

Today we managed to bring the UFO's we made to life using the Crumble programming we created yesterday.

Let's Get Ready to Crumble!

Today in topic we experimented using the Crumble kits to create lights for our UFO's that we have made. We worked in groups to create algorithms to program a sparkle light to change colours at different intervals.

Sporting Afternoon

Today Year 5 were treated to a sports afternoon by Mr. Brewster and his sports leaders. We were led around stations focusing on improving our tag rugby skills and then had the opportunity to put them into practice in a tag rugby competition.

Can you separate a mixture?

Today in science we worked in groups to investigate if certain mixtures could be separated. We chose different materials to mix and then tried to separate them using filtering or sieving. The mixtures that we couldn't separate were irreversible.
